 | Who are The Afterthought?
The Afterthought has two members who are responsible for all the music, lyrics, recording and production. They are Tom Flint and Colin Williams. The Afterthought formed in a small village in Cambridgeshire, England, where both band members grew up. Their first songs were composed and performed entirely on piano, since this was all they had access to. As they we getting good results, they decided to get more equipment, to realise the ideas they were having. Soon many tapes crammed full of ideas appeared, and they put their first demos together using a four track recorder. The afterthought tried to keep their sound raw. Always being able to reproduce live what they put on tape. They created a live stage setup including a sunburst radio and a hat stand which was seen at venues all over the East of England. In 2005 they joined Wooden Fish and their first album, It Was Not Here, was released on 1 October 2005. |
What does the music sound like? Using words to describe music is notoriously difficult, after all, music exists because it can do things that pictures and words cannot. This is why most descriptions of music or bands are achieved by listing other well-known bands and familiar genres of music. Bearing this in mind it would be sensible for us to explain what we sound like by printing a list of our influences. However, we're not going to do that! The simple reason is that, although there is music we are very passionate about, we have never recorded a cover version. That said, we recognise that everything is inevitably borrowed from something that has be created before and there are also only so many notes and so many chords, but despite these common factors, we have tried to remain true to our own ideas.
